Alejandro Hernández and Ainara Fernández winners of the Tennis Europe U14 XII; The Spaniards won the XII edition of the Torneo Internacional de Tennis Europe U14 “Juan Fuster Zaragoza” which was held at the Lope de Vega International School in Benidorm. A tournament that has been consolidated over time and has had the participation of 130 young players from all over Europe. 

In the Men’s Individual Category, Alejandro Hernández beat his compatriot Adra Velázquez in the final, winning the event. Meanwhile, in the women’s category, the victory went to the young Ainara Fernández who played the final against Selma Hohmann from Germany.

In the doubles category, the men’s champions were Mario Lozano and Ángel Minguez, while Javier de Francisco and Alexey Zhilkin were runners-up.

Finally, the women’s doubles champions were Alexia Paula Bastos and Ainara Fernandez, who defeated in the final the tandem formed by Isabella Johri and Elizabeth Prangley.

The President of the Sports Club and head of the Lope de Vega public school, Vicente Fuster, congratulated the winners and thanked the coaching staff headed by Alfonso Bacaicoa for their work. Fuster stressed “that this tournament is special for us, because it is now 12 years old and bears the name of our founder, Juan Fuster Zaragoza, who was inspired to set up this school by the values of sport. And among them, especially the values that integrate the discipline of tennis, because they fully coincide with our educational project”.

The Tournament Director, Alfonso Bacaicoa, pointed out that “this prestigious tournament is part of the Tennis Europe Circuit, which is held all over the continent and which has brought together in Benidorm these days the promising European tennis cadets”.

Bacaicoa wanted to emphasise that “players of the stature of Bernabe Zapata, Jaume Munar, Aliona Bolsova, Alex de Minaur, Paula Badosa and the current world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz have played in this tournament, which has become a reference in its category”.

 

5 major events

In addition to this Tennis Europe U14 Tournament, 5 major sporting events are held at the school during the year. The owner of the Lope de Vega private centre gave a very positive assessment of this summer, which is now coming to an end and which has had tennis as the main protagonist. “We finish the summer season with this XIV International Tennis Tournament Europe U14 “Juan Fuster Zaragoza” after a very active summer. We start June with the Spanish Beach Tennis Championship by Autonomies”. It is worth remembering that this event will continue in Benidorm and in the Lope de Vega facilities, with teams coming from all over Spain . “The Federation is betting on the Lope de Vega to organise this great sporting event for the next few years,” said Fuster;

It is worth mentioning that during the month of August the ITF U18 was also held on the school’s courts; The president of the Lope de Vega Sports Club concluded by stressing that “with all these initiatives we are promoting Tennis, because this Institution decided in its day that it was going to be its star sport and this is being demonstrated in the high quality events of national and international repercussion that we are carrying out”. He also wanted to thank the Benidorm Town Hall and the Valencian Tennis Federation “all their support to make this possible”.
