Pope Francis' blessing to begin the school year

“School, a meeting place”

We've begun a new school year at Lope de Vega International School. After the summer break, we're starting this new year with enthusiasm, moving forward. We always look to our past to confidently build a bright future. At our school, we also have a special perspective, a Christian perspective that invites us to unite, to love, to respect, and above all, to grow as good people.

To begin this academic year, our chaplain has requested the Apostolic Blessing of Pope Francis from the Holy See. We therefore have this special remembrance and affection from the Holy Father. He told us, referring to education:

“In education, there is a balance that must be maintained, a careful balancing of steps: one firm step within the safe zone, and another venturing into the realm of risk. And when that risk becomes safety, the next step seeks another area of risk. Education cannot be confined to the safe zone: no. This hinders the growth of individuals. But neither can it be confined to the realm of risk: this is far too dangerous. Remember this balance of steps. The school can and should be a catalyst, a meeting place and point of convergence for the entire educational community with the sole objective of forming and helping students grow into mature, humble, competent, and honest individuals who know how to love faithfully, who know how to live life as a response to God's call, and whose future profession is a service to society.” (Address of Pope Francis to students, June 7, 2013)
