The school Brains The team from Madrid has been proclaimed the winner of the 2nd CICAE Pre-University Debate Tournament, held this weekend at the Lope de Vega International School.an event that has managed to bring together 100 participating students from 11 schools from all over Spain, members of the Association of Independent Schools CICAE.
For two days, 20 teams debated “for” or “against” a topic that is currently in the news due to Brexit, the Catalan referendum, and the peace agreement with the FARC:Should fundamental issues of a country be put to a referendum?
After more than 45 debates held on Friday and Saturday, only two teams made it to the final, with Brains School taking first place and SEK El Castillo School finishing second. Both teams from Lope de Vega International School performed exceptionally well, winning 5 of the 6 debates they participated in on Friday and ultimately finishing among the top 8, thus securing their place in the Final Tournament to be held in Madrid next April at Camilo José Cela University.
The winners, who received prizes sponsored by Energy System, celebrated their victory enthusiastically and highlighted the great experience they are gaining in the field of public speaking through participation in these competitions, which will undoubtedly help them perform better in their university and professional lives.
The format of the 1st National Pre-University Debate League, organized by CICAE and the Camilo José Cela University, is in the English style, similar to that of the Oxford Unionwhere some young people met to debate current issues and argued with the intention of developing such highly valued skills.
In total, More than 350 students between the ages of 14 and 18, along with their teams, will participate and compete this year. with the goal of becoming national champions of the Pre-University Debate League.
This is the third debate tournament in which our students have participated since its creation last year. Lope de Vega Debate and Public Speaking Club, which already has more than 60 students enrolled and whose first participations have been a complete success.
