When we want to express our affection for someone, we often do so through flowers. Flowers, with their beauty and fragrance, tell the Virgin Mary that we love her as our Mother, as Queen of our hearts. She is one of the greatest gifts that Jesus Christ, the Lord, has given us to guide us on our daily journey. As a good and tender Heavenly Mother, she is attentive to all of us, her spiritual children.
This is why, in our school, we have a long-standing tradition of offering flowers to the Virgin Mary every year. This year, on Monday, June 3rd, all the children from preschool through fourth grade participated in this heartfelt ceremony. At 10:00 a.m., the celebration began in front of the image of Our Lady of Suffrage, patron saint of the city of Benidorm, with all the children together with their teachers and the chaplain, Father Javier. After a few words from the priest explaining the purpose of the ceremony, all the children brought their flowers. With the help of fourth-year secondary students, a beautiful tapestry was created from the flowers offered.
After offering their flowers, it was time to sing the songs they had learned. In the days leading up to the offering, the teachers had enthusiastically taught these songs to the children. The preschool students sang, "I Have My Mother at Home," and the elementary school students sang, "On May 13th, the Virgin Mary Came Down from Heaven." To conclude this gesture of affection toward the Mother of Heaven, each student received a holy card with an image of the Virgin Mary and a prayer.
