DELE
(diploma of Spanish
as a foreign language)
The DELE is the only official qualification accrediting the degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language.
This diploma is awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain and can only be obtained in examination centers accredited by the Instituto Cervantes such as the Lope de Vega International School.
The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language are internationally recognized and facilitate access:
- To university studies, mainly Masters, which require an accreditation of level B2 and C1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- To the working world, since they are recognized by private companies and chambers of commerce.
The DELE exams are designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe.

DELE A1 (Basic User: access)
DELE A2 (Basic user: platform)
DELE B1 (Independent user: intermediate)
DELE B2 (Independent user: upper intermediate)
DELE C1 (Proficient user: effective operational proficiency)

DELE A1
The Diploma of Spanish
level A1 accredits sufficient linguistic competence to:
- understand and use everyday Spanish-speaking expressions for immediate needs;
- ask for and give basic personal information about yourself;
- interact in a very elementary way with Spanish speakers.
DELE A2
The Diploma of Spanish
level A2 certifies
the ability to:
- understand and use everyday expressions related to basic information about oneself, one’s situation and one’s environment.
- communicate in a simple and direct way familiar aspects and to describe in simple terms aspects of their past and their environment.
- solve basic questions related to their immediate needs.
DELE B1
The Diploma of Spanish
level B1 accredits
the ability to:
- understand the main points of oral and written texts on familiar topics.
- cope in most familiar everyday situations and contexts.
- produce simple and coherent texts on known topics of personal interest or the expression of opinions.
DELE B2
The Diploma of Spanish
level B2 accredits
the ability to:
- understand the gist of complex oral and written texts, on specialized topics.
- interact with a sufficient degree of fluency and naturalness.
- produce clear and detailed texts on a variety of subjects, including those involving dialectical analysis, debate or defense of a point of view.
DELE C1
The Diploma of Spanish
level C1 accredits
the ability to:
- to develop with fluency in any variant of the language, recognizing even implicit meanings, attitudes or intentions;
- express oneself fluently, spontaneously and without apparent effort and always find the appropriate expression for the situation and context.
- use the language flexibly and effectively.
DELE C2
The Diploma of Spanish
level C2 accredits
the ability to:
- be able to cope in any situation by understanding virtually everything heard or read, regardless of its length, complexity or degree of abstraction.
- express yourself spontaneously with fluency and precision, differentiating nuances of meaning even in academic and work environments with a high degree of specialization and complexity.

In order to formalize registration at the DELE examination centers recognized by the Instituto Cervantes, the candidate must provide the required documentation:

Candidates who wish to sit for the Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language must prove, at the time of registration, that they are citizens of a country in which Spanish is not an official language.
- At Lope de Vega International School we offer courses to prepare for the different levels, in the afternoons.
- Before the start of the course, a test will be carried out to place you in the corresponding group.
