More than 700 students from all grade levels at the school, accompanied by teachers and led by the Solidarity Youth Club, will participate next Friday, January 28th, in the 'March for Peace,' with which the school joins the events promoting peace and non-violence. This action is part of the objective proposed by UNESCO Schools for the International Day of Peace, which is to promote the values of peace through sport.
The march aims to emulate the daily effort of Ugandan schoolchildren to attend school, specifically the students of the Rafiki Carmen Pérez González School, who must walk an average of 80 minutes each way to get to class every day. This symbolic march, representing that journey, recognizes their commitment to education.
The march will depart from the school at 9:30 a.m. and will end at Levante Beach (Avenida Madrid). Students will leave in staggered groups, accompanied by their teachers, throughout the morning and afternoon during school hours.
The purpose of this march, in addition to raising awareness and highlighting the achievements of African students, is to raise funds for the social work carried out by the NGO Rafiki in Uganda. The Lope de Vega school maintains a close collaboration with this NGO for the maintenance and oversight of the educational project at the Rafiki-Carmen Pérez González School in Kenziga, Uganda.
The entire event organization, including the design of race bibs and other materials, was handled by the LDV Youth Solidarity Club, which was formed at the beginning of the school year to coordinate all the charitable activities that take place throughout the year. This club is made up of teachers and students from the school.
