The Lope de Vega school kicks off the patron saint festivities of Benidorm

The Lope de Vega school kicks off the Benidorm patron saint festivities with the Representation of the Dawn and the firing of a firecracker. It also houses the Virgin of Suffrage, patron saint of the municipality, in its chapel.

Representation of the Dawn

On November 9th, the students who have been Queens and Ladies of the Benidorm Patron Saint FestivitiesThey performed the Dawn Play in the schoolyard, under the watchful eyes of their classmates.

This play tells the story of how, in 1740, the residents of Benidorm were surprised by the arrival on their shores of a lorry that had sailed there without a crew. It was believed that the crew's disappearance was due to the plague, which instilled fear. After discussions and consultations, the authorities decided to burn the ship. It was set ablaze without anything being removed. When the flames died down, the children searched for nails and pieces of iron among the ashes and found, "intact and radiant," an image of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms, which the ship had brought on its stern.

In addition to the students of Religion from the School, members of the La Barqueta Cultural Association were present, which is responsible for promoting and maintaining traditions of the municipality.

Launch of the firecrackers

Following the Dawn Procession, a firework display was set off at the entrance to the school, next to the bust of the founders. The students of Children He was also accompanied to the area to enjoy starting our local festivities with this traditional element of our culture: fireworks.

Virgin of Suffrage

It is worth noting that, for this year's Benidorm patron saint festivities, the school had the great honor of hosting the Virgin of Suffrage in its chapel. During the night of November 9th, the image of the patron saint rested in the Lope de Vega school thanks to the loan of the La Barqueta Association.
