This Thursday will see the official reception of the teams participating in the 2nd Spanish National Beach Tennis Championship at the Lope de Vega International School. A total of 17 registered teams from all the autonomous communities of Spain where this sport is practiced, as well as from Ceuta and Melilla, will be attending the event. The competition will take place on Friday the 24th, Saturday the 25th, and Sunday the 26th, with matches played on the courts located on Poniente Beach in Benidorm and the school's main court, where the semifinals and final will be held.
More than 150 players and team captains will arrive in Benidorm to compete in this second edition, which will be held annually in the coming years at the school's facilities and on Poniente Beach. The best players in Spain will participate in this tournament, organized by the school in conjunction with the Spanish Tennis Federation, with the collaboration of the Benidorm City Council through the Department of Sports, headed by Councilor Mariló Cebreros.
The head of the Vicente Fuster school emphasized that “Juan Fuster Zaragoza was the founder who inspired us at this school to be passionate about sports. Thanks to his enthusiasm and spirit, we have been able to start and be pioneers in promoting beach tennis by hosting this tournament, which celebrates its second edition in 2022.”
For his part, Carles Vicent, Coordinator of the Sports Department of the Spanish Tennis Federation and head of Beach Tennis in Spain, stated that “We are going to hold this second Spanish Beach Tennis Championship in magnificent facilities. Both last year and this year we have had a wonderful team from the Lope de Vega School, and that is why we are here in 2022.”
Finally, Alfonso Bacaicoa, Director of the Championship and manager of Costa Tenis, emphasized that “thanks to the synergy between the Lope de Vega International School, the Benidorm City Council, the Spanish Tennis Federation, the Valencian Tennis Federation, and Costa Tenis, we have ensured that this National Beach Tennis Championship will remain with us every June for at least three more years. We want this Spanish National Beach Tennis Championship to stay in Benidorm and at the Lope de Vega International School.”
This new state competition responds to the enormous boom that beach tennis is experiencing in our country, where this year the number of participants in the Spanish Championship has doubled with more than one hundred absolute pairs, plus the competitors in the junior categories (Under 18 and Under 14) and veterans (+35 and +45).
This event is expected to have significant national impact, as it is being organized by the Spanish Tennis Federation. Its progress will also be covered by various news programs on national television networks.
