“The world of plants” has been the theme around which unit 7 has revolved. Children's section of Lope de Vega International SchoolLiving things offer a broad range of interest for learning about the natural environment. Therefore, on this occasion, we introduced our children to the wonderful world of plants. Through this exploration, they experimented and investigated to satisfy their curiosity.
We welcome spring
This unit has been perfect as a starting point to welcome spring and observe the changes that occur around us with the changing seasons. 3 years The children have learned about the properties and benefits that some aromatic herbs have for humans. All of this has been done with an attitude of care and respect for the environment. 4 years in the MakingThe central focus of learning has been the vegetable garden and its importance for our food and the promotion of certain professions. The students of 5 years For their part, they have explored the immediate surroundings to learn about the different types of trees that can be found there.

3 years, aromatic herbs
The youngest children in the Early Years stage have been exploring the world of plants, learning about their parts and investigating them through their senses. They have identified differences between various plants and used them as elements for developing their artistic expression. They have also transplanted aromatic plants in the school garden to observe their growth and reflect on the care they need to thrive. One of the activities they enjoyed most was a trip to the Serra Gelada area to continue exploring nature and connect their previous learning experiences.
4 years, the vegetable garden
Among the classroom proposals, the students have sequenced the observable moments in the growth of a plant and have reflected through a thinking skill to classify the plants according to the part that we eat of it (root, stem and leaves).
They especially enjoyed making gazpacho with the produce from the garden and created a "garden of emotions" to connect caring for a plant with caring for oneself.
5 years, fruit trees
The school is the students' closest learning environment. Therefore, we took advantage of the surroundings to observe the trees on the school grounds and discover the differences between their leaves, fruit, and general characteristics. We continued to emphasize the importance of conserving our environment so that we can continue to obtain the wide variety of materials it offers and use them responsibly. Among the activities, they classified natural elements by size, shape, and quantity. They also played with words as an introduction to reading and writing. In addition, they manipulated different materials for artistic creation and made delicious orange marmalade in one of the annual cooking workshops.
Connecting with the environment and with oneself through nature
Connecting with the environment and nature has many cognitive and emotional benefits for children. One of the teaching objectives in this unit has therefore been to guide the children in their exploration of the world through outings to their immediate surroundings. Activities such as a reading session and a spring lunch, walks with magnifying glasses to observe the school's trees, and visits to the garden to plant or harvest some of the food that the earth provides and with which we can cook, have been some of the proposed activities. These activities promote concentration, memory, motivation, curiosity, social interaction, and solidarity, among other things.
To conclude the unit we took a trip to a natural adventure space, Vitalparcent, promoting coexistence within this community of children, whose emotional support is the focus of all teaching proposals, something important to "nurture every day".
