At Lope de Vega International School we have Ana Hoyo, our school nurse, present at the school throughout the school day to guarantee the care and well-being of our students.
Ana prevents, assists, and treats accidents, illnesses, and allergies. She also safeguards, stores, and dispenses necessary medication.
Furthermore, it plays a vital role in promoting health within the educational community. Its commitment includes first aid training for teachers and students, the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits, blood donation drives, and disease prevention initiatives.
Ana currently oversees all aspects of the health of our school community at Lope de Vega International School . This includes various areas:
• Handles any accidents that may occur, managing the entire process.
• Supervise the special diets of students who require them.
• Administer medication as prescribed by a doctor, whether for acute or chronic conditions, and without a prescription, always with the consent of parents or legal guardians in cases of pain.
• Prevents, detects and monitors the different health problems that may occur during the school day, advising parents, the school, and other health professionals when more specialized health care is needed.
• We work with the SNapp school nursing platform . This platform allows for greater data security and confidentiality, portability of student medical records and reports, recording of medical conditions, and medication dispensing. It also enables secure communication with families.
• Provides health training.
Our school has an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) , a medical device for out-of-hospital use designed to act quickly and effectively in the event of cardiac arrest. Its use, along with early intervention, can be crucial in saving lives.
Cardiac arrest or sudden death can occur suddenly and unexpectedly, so having the appropriate means of response is essential.
In addition, we have pediatric and adult electrodes , which allows us to adapt care to the needs of anyone who may suffer a cardiac emergency within our facilities.
Thanks to these resources, our center is accredited as a Cardioprotected Center , thus reinforcing our commitment to the safety, well-being and protection of the entire educational community.
Our school nurse, Ana Hoyo, has a Diploma in Nursing from the UPV-EHU of Donostia – San Sebastián.
Her working life began in 2006. Since then she has worked as a hospital nurse in several hospitals in the Osakidetza network, mainly dedicated to Urgent and Emergency care, and privately as an operating room nurse.
Throughout all these years she has been continuously training in various areas such as pediatric emergencies, gynecological emergencies, International Trauma Life Support and traumatology, among others.
She has also been a collaborating researcher in a study called “Assessment of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection in patients born between 1945 and 1965 (Baby boomers). OSIBB17/007” presented at the XLI Basque-Navarre Meeting of Digestive Pathology, which won the first prize for best oral communication.
