The preschool teachers at Lope de Vega have once again focused on curiosity as a driving force for learning in this age group. Through this unit on living things, the children have been able to discover the characteristics, life cycles, and social relationships of some insects.

Children's innate desire to understand their surroundings has allowed them to delve deeper into the natural environment, fostering research strategies such as observing, experimenting, asking questions, and finding answers.

3 years, the ants
The three-year-old students transformed themselves into an ant colony, working for the well-being of the entire group, just like these tiny creatures. They also explored different types of ants, their senses, their characteristics, and how they interact and inhabit the spaces they occupy. All of this was recreated in the classroom with an anthill. Logical-mathematical, language development, artistic, and motor activities related to this theme were also incorporated.
4 years, the bees
The four-year-old students have discovered the fascinating world of bees and their importance to the planet's sustainability thanks, among other factors, to pollination. They have also learned about the products bees offer, which have been present in the classroom since the beginning of the unit. Finally, they enjoyed an educational field trip to CEM – Environmental Education Center – of La NucíaThere they had different experiences, including tasting different varieties of honey, distinguishing between bees, and creating their own wax candle.
5 years, the life cycle of the butterfly
There is nothing more important than taking the time to understand the processes of nature. Thus, the 5-year-old children connected all areas of learning to observe the transformation that occurs in the life cycle of a butterfly. Among the activities, the students compared and contrasted, sequenced events, and questioned many things. This has especially fostered critical thinking and an investigative attitude.
Entomology, the science that studies insects
In addition, the students received an unexpected surprise to conclude the unit: an entomology session for children. This theatrical storytelling activity was led by Fanny Pérez Alcañiz.
