Spanish tennis is at a high level and has a large pool of players, as has been evident in the "Juan Fuster Zaragoza" Tennis Tournament, which ended this weekend with the victory of young Spanish tennis players in all its categories.
Once again, the Lope de Vega International School hosted this tournament belonging to the Junior Tennis Tour under-14, which took place from August 26 to September 4 with the participation of more than 350 players and coaches.
The singles finals were played yesterday, and the doubles finals took place on Saturday afternoon. In all cases, the winners were tennis players trained in Spain. Mario Mansilla Díez was crowned men's singles champion after defeating Carlos Alcaraz García in a hard-fought match. In the women's competition, Silvia Vargas Jiménez won the singles final against Alba Rey García.
In the doubles events, the pair of Diego Augusto Barreto and Mario Mansilla emerged victorious, defeating the Kapuskin-Linkuns duo. In women's doubles, María Dolores López Martínez and Judith Perelló were crowned champions after a thrilling final, defeating Alba Rey and Silvia Vargas.
The trophy presentation was carried out by the Deputy Mayor of Benidorm City Council, Jose Ramón González de Zárate; the Tournament Director, Gonzalo Morell; and the Head of the Lope de Vega International School, Vicente Fuster Pérez, as the organizing entity of this youth tournament.
This year the Tournament has grown thanks to the collaboration of the Benidorm City Council, which has provided the courts at the Guillermo Amor Sports Complex, where preliminary matches have been played. This has allowed players from 34 countries across five continents to participate, in addition to several European national teams.
The Lope de Vega International School is a leading institution for tennis in the province of Alicante, as it houses the prestigious Ferrer Tennis Academy, which trains players from around the world. The Tennis Europe Junior Tour has long been a springboard for launching successful tennis careers, and in recent years, the participation of players such as Justine Henin, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Murray, Dinara Safina, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Maria Sharapova in this circuit has been particularly noteworthy.
