On February 18th, we celebrated Ash Wednesday at our school. Respecting the beliefs of each student, everyone had the opportunity to reflect on the need for conversion. Throughout the day, students visited the school chapel to hear a message from our priest. chaplain which invited them to grow in the capacity to forgive and in the greatness of recognizing our own mistakes.
These words of Pope Francis clearly remind us what Lent means:
“Lent comes to us as a providential time to change course, to recover the capacity to react to the reality of evil that always challenges us. Lent is to be lived as a time of conversion, of personal and communal renewal through drawing closer to God and trusting adherence to the Gospel. In this way, it also allows us to look with new eyes at our brothers and sisters and their needs. For this reason, Lent is a favorable time to convert to the love of God and neighbor; a love that knows how to make its own the attitude of gratuitousness and mercy of the Lord, who ‘became poor so that by his poverty we might become rich’ (cf. 2 Color 8, 9). By meditating on the central mysteries of the faith, the passion, the cross and the resurrection of Christ, we will realize that the immeasurable gift of Redemption has been given to us by God's free initiative.”
