The first-year high school student at the Lope de Vega International School, Dan Davison, has won first prize in the 4th Edition of the “My First Short Film” Contest 2013Organized by the City of Light Study Center, this award includes a trophy, diploma, and scholarship for courses totaling €1000 to be taken during the 2013-2014 academic year.
“Like a man”, The title of the student's work deals with the unfortunate encounter between a father and a teenager suffering from a lack of social control, who unleashes his murderous impulses, choosing anonymous victims—a symptom of a society in moral decay. The only two characters in the short film are also played by students from the school, Vicente Jorro and Javier Sainz.
The director of the City of Light Studies Centre, Luís Cruz, presented the first prize trophy of the 'My First Short Film' competition to Dan Davison.
The event, held in the Luís García Berlanga Auditorium at the Ciudad de la Luz Study Center, was attended by the three finalist schools, selected from all the entries submitted from the Valencian Community. Also present were the students who collaborated on the short film, some of Dan Davison's classmates, his family, and Mr. Mario Gómez Prieto, representing our school and editor of our digital school newspaper, dld3.
The three selected short films were projected on the big screen, allowing students, teachers, the jury, and especially the filmmakers themselves to enjoy the highest quality. After the screenings, the jury members announced the third, second, and first prizes. The winners then had the opportunity to express their gratitude.
After the group photo, the attendees from the three schools took a guided tour of the Ciudad de la Luz film studios. They saw laboratories and editing suites where some editing work was being done, as well as the interiors of some studios and soundstages, equipped with cameras, props, chroma key equipment, and camera dollies.
The “My First Short Film!” competition, which is aimed at secondary and high school students, aims to stimulate creative work within the teaching framework of the audiovisual medium as a complementary and transversal activity of teaching and to promote the youngest filmmakers.
