Lope de Vega celebrates the 5th edition of the Debate Tournament

“Is the two-state solution the most appropriate for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?” This question was debated this weekend by schools in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia, Valencia, Madrid and the Canary Islands. 5th “Lope de Vega” Debate Tournament by  Lope de Vega International School and the consultancy Kairós Comunicación in Benidorm and was inaugurated by the educational director of the center, María Fuster, with the presence of the councilors of the Benidorm City Council - which has supported and sponsored the five editions of the tournament - Jaime J. Pérez and Maite Moreno.

The educational director of the Benidorm school, Maria Fuster, pointed out that this tournament is a valuable experience for the students, "because it allows them to train essential skills for their future, such as the ability to analyze information in depth, defend ideas solidly, persuade with argumentation and learn to ask appropriate questions."

The team that has been proclaimed champion was from Brains school, from Madrid, who debated against the team from Maristas school, from Valencia, in a very close final that took place in the school's auditorium.

With this public speaking and debate training project promoted by the Lope de Vega and Kairós Communication Students develop skills such as oral expression, increased vocabulary, stepping out of their comfort zone, active listening, responsibility, use of ICT for information retrieval, promotion of critical thinking, etc.

Individual recognitions

In this tournament - which is aimed at students from 3rd year of ESO to 2nd year of Bachillerato - the best individual speakers of the tournament are also recognized, chosen by the judges in each of the debates, resulting in **Nahir Baides, from Lope de Vega, as the best speaker** of this fifth edition.

The ideal team was selected as follows:

Best introducers: Adriana Quevedo and Verónica Talavera, from Arenas Atlántico in Gran Canaria

Best refuters: Eugenia de Paula (Maristas, Valencia), Silvia Velasco and Mireya Sánchez (Aeternum, Torrepacheco) and Luisa Teuchmann (Brains, Madrid)

Best counter-refuter: Miguel Baños (Aeternum)

Best conclusion: Ou Yang Zhou (Lope de Vega)

 

Consolidated project

This fifth edition consolidates an event that has become a fixture on the calendar year after year and is already planning its sixth edition thanks to the important support of Lope de Vega International School - focused on offering the best tools to students to face their professional future - and the sponsors: Prunita, El Corte Inglés, Benidorm City Council, Learning for life Education, Ausolan, and ZeBlack.
