The entire Lope de Vega school community, led by the LDV Solidarity Youth Club, participated today in the 'March for Peace,' an initiative through which the school joins the events of the International Day of Peace and Non-Violence. As a UNESCO Network School, this year the values of peace have been explored through sports.
In addition to the sporting aspect, the walk had a charitable purpose, as the students recognized the daily effort of Ugandan children to attend school. Specifically, they showed their solidarity with the students of the Rafiki-Carmen Pérez González School, who must walk an average of 80 minutes each way to get to class every day. This symbolic walk, representing that journey, acknowledges their commitment to education.
Close collaboration with the NGO Rafiki, in Uganda
The walk began at 9:30 a.m., once all the race numbers had been distributed. The departure was staggered throughout the school day, starting from the school and ending at Levante Beach. There, the primary school students participated in activities on the sand, while back at the school, vocational students led fun games for the younger children. The preschool children, in turn, completed a tour of the school grounds.
The purpose of this march was to highlight the achievements of African students and raise funds for the social work carried out by the NGO Rafiki in Uganda. Lope de Vega International School maintains a close collaboration with this NGO for the maintenance and oversight of the educational project at the Rafiki-Carmen Pérez González School in Kenziga, Uganda.
The entire event organization, including the design of race bibs and other materials, was handled by the LDV Youth Solidarity Club, which was formed at the beginning of the school year to coordinate all the charitable activities that take place throughout the year. This club is made up of teachers and students from the school.
