In Early Childhood Stage of the Lope de Vega International School There have been some truly magical moments during the second global unit. Its central theme has been the importance of community in education.
Real-life learning situations
We already told you that the team of The Infant Education program this 2022-23 school year focused on teaching processes that address real learning situationsWell, if the first globalized unit focused on "the family environment", as a logical evolution, the second unit has focused on "the immediate environment".
The immediate surroundings
In this second area of interest, which the teachers have called “Local Environment”, the students have been able to enjoy educational experiences through which they have discovered “Our School” (3 years), "the neighborhood where we are” (4 years old) and "the city of Benidorm” (5 years).
Both the families of our students and the various stakeholders involved in the process have contributed to creating real-life learning situations where children have been able to satisfy their curiosity. In this way, the word "community" has taken on a deeper meaning than ever before. The school would like to express its gratitude to all those involved.
3 years, our school
In this unit, the three-year-old students visited the different areas of the school accompanied by their families. All the activities were designed to help the youngest children adapt to their new environment and develop their independence in daily life. Furthermore, they were able to connect all the learning areas in a personal and engaging way.
4 years, our neighborhood
This time, the four-year-old teachers recreated the neighborhood and its businesses. This allowed them to create realistic learning situations and facilitate the transfer of knowledge through symbolic play and the integration of activities. To conclude the unit, the students took a field trip around the neighborhood, where the teachers observed the students' progress between prior and newly acquired knowledge.
5 years, Benidorm, our city
Among the activities carried out to help 5-year-old students learn about the city of Benidorm, a tourist bus excursion was organized, which served as a springboard for exploring this topic in greater depth. We were also honored by the visit of Ms. Maria Lourdes Caselles, Councillor for Urban Planning and Housing, and Mr. Jaime Jesús Pérez Esteban, Councillor for Culture, Youth and Heritage. representatives of the City CouncilThe children shared their concerns and needs as citizens of Benidorm and a vital part of society. We traveled through time to learn about the city through its traditions and the relationships between all its stakeholders, including the cleaning services, the local police, and the fire department.
