The projects of Víctor and Rosa, first-year Baccalaureate students, have been chosen as the two best in the entire Valencian Community, meaning they will represent the school at the 1th National Session of the European Model Parliament, which is being held this year in Santiago de Compostela. These two students, accompanied by their teacher Óscar Cortina, will travel to the Galician Parliament from February 22nd to 25th for a series of days filled with debates, reflection, and participation from all attendees. Lope de Vega School continues its important role in these events, having consistently been one of the top-performing schools in the past twelve years, receiving numerous accolades from the various juries.
The Manuel Peleteiro School will host students and teachers from all over Spain for the European Parliament's conference, which will focus on four key themes: sustainable cities, promoting entrepreneurial activity, the challenges facing the European Union as a global economic power, and the integration of people with disabilities into society. During their stay, the students will have the opportunity to visit the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful, centuries-old city, which attracts thousands of pilgrims each year.
Víctor, whose essay on the Challenges of the European Union as a Global Economic Power was highly praised, shared his thoughts on his upcoming time in the Galician Parliament. “As I feel right now, I envision the National Phase of the MEP as a truly fascinating event, not only because I'll be discussing a topic that has captivated me from the very beginning, but also because I'll be meeting the people who, even now, are just names and surnames with whom I've shared wonderful moments in the forum. These moments have been filled with admiration for the opinions they expressed on various aspects of the topic we were discussing, as well as for opinions I didn't understand at all and that even made me nervous (which is normal when you participate in a debate forum). I'm really looking forward to meeting them and experiencing this, which I'm sure will be a unique event,” he stated.
On the other hand, Rosa expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunities this trip offers. “I think this trip can be a great opportunity to understand how an institution like the European Parliament works and, at the same time, develop my teamwork skills. Public speaking isn't one of my strengths, so I hope to improve in that area and also learn more about the environment and the use of natural resources, since the topic I chose was the design of a Sustainable City,” she concluded.
