Ou Yang, a student at Lope de Vega International School, has been selected for the regional phase of the 29th Mathematical Olympiad, which will be held in May in Valencia.
The event took place on May 6th Provincial phase of the XXIX Mathematical Olympiad in the municipality of Agost, organized by the Al-Khuwarizmi Society for Mathematical Education of the Valencian Community. This was the second phase of the Olympiad, as the first phase had been held in March. Regional phase in which the College already participated.
Provincial phase
For the Provincial Phase, Ou Yang Zhou, a 4th-grade student, was the Lope de Vega student who had qualified after placing among the top 30 in the region. A total of 30 students competed in this Provincial Phase at his level (3th and 4th grade). They completed an individual test, a team speed test, and a team field test. After a day full of tests and mathematical challenges, the eight best students from the province of Alicante were announced in the afternoon. These eight students will compete on May 27th and 28th against the eight best students from the provinces of Valencia and Castellón in the Regional Phase.
Regional phase of the Olympics
The regional phase of the Olympics will consist of a weekend of activities (May 27th and 28th) in Piles, Valencia. A total of 24 students from across the Valencian Community will compete at this level, with both individual and team events.
National Mathematical Olympiad
The Olympiad is divided into four phases: a first local, held on March 25. A second provincialheld on May 6th. And a penultimate one autonomicwhich will be held on May 27 and 28. From this final phase will emerge Three representatives have been selected to participate in the National Mathematical Olympiad, organized by the Spanish Federation of Societies of Mathematics Teachers (FESPM) next June.
