3st of Primary She concludes her interdisciplinary project “I take care of myself” with the incredible experience of being able to perform an ultrasound on a pregnant woman.
Human body reporters
In this cross-curricular project, shared between Spanish Language, English Language, and Science, primary school students have become journalists and reporters of the human body. Their mission: to investigate the human body, from the most recommended habits such as a balanced diet and exercise, to its biology: parts of the heart, the aorta, the arteries…
Restroom visit
The project concluded last Friday with a visit from medical professionals: Doctors Plácido O. and Estefanía G., and nurse Iria O., who are relatives of third-grade students. Thanks to their generosity, the students were able to hold a real skull (from a former patient, according to the doctor), and see and touch medical instruments such as a blood pressure monitor, a stethoscope, a pacemaker, cardiac recording sheets, and so on.
“A real baby inside the belly”
But without a doubt, the most anticipated moment was seeing the doctor in action alongside the third-grade students performing an ultrasound. Iria O., in addition to being a nurse, was pregnant and agreed to let the students perform a real-time ultrasound. They watched, fascinated, as they heard phrases like "a real baby inside the tummy," "it's moving…," "you can see the face…" or "Look at the hand!"
Thanks to this visit, the students were able to resolve many doubts, questions, and concerns that had arisen during their prior research. We are eternally grateful to our families.
