"RAFIKI CARMEN PÉREZ GONZÁLEZ" EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

CONSTRUCTION OF THE “CARMEN PÉREZ GONZÁLEZ” SCHOOL

The Lope de Vega International School has signed a collaboration agreement with the Rafiki Africa Association for the construction of a school in the town of Kenziga (Uganda).

The center, which will be named “Carmen Pérez González” in honor of the founder of the Lope de Vega school, is located in one of the poorest communities in the African country. The school will operate all day, not just during regular school hours, and will offer classes to children and adults as well.

Rafiki School

The school, which will have capacity for 400 students, is already under construction and is scheduled for completion in April. It consists of two buildings with four classrooms each, for a total of eight classrooms.

The school will not only cover the children's educational needs but also their food needs, as there will be a kitchen in the center where they can eat.

The school year will begin in January 2019. For the time being, only Primary education will be offered, although the plan is to build another building for Secondary education within the next two years.

The Lope de Vega school's support will be essential to pay the teachers who will teach the classes. In addition, the school will send volunteers to organize the opening of the school, for which two houses are being prepared.

Starting in May, classes will begin for adults (over 16 years old).

There will be courses in English (although it is their language, most of the women do not speak it), sewing – cutting and tailoring – (they are trying to buy sewing machines for this), basic computer skills (for which computers are needed) and carpentry.

In addition, of course, to literacy.

RAFIKI AFRICA

rafiki-colegio4

Rafiki Africa is a non-governmental development NGO, founded in September 2009.

Their main mission at the moment is to help the population of a particularly depressed area in Equatorial Africa.

Their aid is aimed at improving the standard of living of that population, focused on the villages of Ikoba and Katwe, in the districts of Sembaule and Hoima, in Uganda.

To this end, from the outset, an action plan has been proposed that pursues an Integral Development of the area, which addresses both the most basic physical needs for survival, as well as the cultural, social and economic development of that population, in the medium and long term.
