The Carmen Pérez González 8-a-side Football Tournament is now in its third edition. It kicked off on Monday 26 June at the instalaciones del Lope de Vega International School with a total of 12 teams from all over the Marina Baixa region.
During three consecutive days there were different matches between the pre-benjamin and alevín categories;
On the first day of the tournament, the first year competed. After a very tight match, it was the CD Lope de Vega who won first place after a penalty shoot-out victory over Jonense;
The second day took place on Tuesday 27th. The second year competed in this competition. UD Altea were victorious against CF La Nucía.
On the third and final day, held on 28 June, the second year prebenjamines competed. Atletico Benidorm won the match against CD Lope de Vega, who came in second place. Third place went to CF Benidorm and fourth place to La Nucía.
A future International 8-a-side Football Tournament
According to Víctor Canelada, who is in charge of this third edition, “the idea is to
expand the tournament year after year. We hope that the next edition can be played at
national level and then realize an international 8-a-side tournament
with teams from different countries”.
The President of the Sports Club and head of Lope de Vega International School, Vicente Fuster, highlighted “our firm commitment to sport. At the school we are passionate about sport and thanks to this enthusiasm we want to promote sporting activity at all levels. An example of this is the Carmen Pérez González 8-a-side Football Tournament, which this year reaches its third edition;
