NEXT OPEN DAY MARCH 25TH, OPEN ENROLLMENT

The Lope de Vega continues to reap awards in debate tournaments

  • Students Laura Ramirez and Karine Dumont have received the recognition for Best Speaker and Best Counter-Refuter of the CDU-Cordoba Debate Tournament.
  • Both teams from Lope de Vega qualified for the final phase of the tournament.

This past weekend, eight students debated the question "Should the criminal responsibility of minors in Spain be reduced?" at the CDU-Córdoba National Debate Tournament. The students (Laura, Ángela, Karine, Carla, Jose Vicente, Pedro, Morgana, and Hugo) were assisted by their instructor, Miguel Ángel Salguero, and by Juan Manuel Vizuete.

Of the 21 participating schools from across Spain, only 8 qualified on the first day. The two teams from Lope de Vega qualified in first and fifth place, a magnificent result that rewarded the students' weeks of hard work and effort. Although they didn't reach the final in the next elimination round, the students did receive two special awards: the Award for... best speaker for Laura Ramirez and award to the best counter-refuter for Karine Dumont. These awards, warmly celebrated by both teams, brought to a close two days of intense debate.

Both Miguel Ángel and Juan Manuel point out that the students have done an exceptional job and deserve all the awards they've won. Now they're beginning preparations for the next debate tournament, the renowned Nebrija-Versus, where Lope de Vega has achieved third place for two consecutive years. Still buzzing with excitement, the students are already starting to work hard to continue their success in the next tournament.
