The tournament has moved up a category this year, welcoming more players
The Lope de Vega International School is currently hosting the “Juan Fuster Zaragoza” Junior Tennis Tour for under-14 players. The preliminary rounds of this tournament have been underway since August 26th, and the final rounds begin tomorrow and will continue until September 04th, 2016.
The Councillor for Sports of Benidorm City Council, Ana Pellicer, will hold a press conference on Tuesday, August 30th at 12:00 pm at the Lope de Vega International School to present the final draw for the tournament. She will be joined by the Tournament Director, Gonzalo Morell, and the Head of the Lope de Vega International School, Vicente Fuster Pérez.
After five years of the Tournament, the International Federation has recognized the great work done and the satisfaction of players, coaches and families who have visited us during this time, awarding the Tournament, starting with this Edition, the category of Grade 2.
Of the 350 registered girls and boys, 208 will be able to participate in the Qualifying and Final stages. This increase in the number of participants has led to an expansion of the facilities where the matches are played, with the games taking place at the “Club Deportivo Lope de Vega” and the FOIETES Municipal Courts in Benidorm.
The players are 104 girls and 104 boys from 34 countries across five continents. They are joined by coaches and chaperones, bringing the total to over 350 people. The competitions include women's and men's singles and women's and men's doubles. In addition, European teams composed of two girls, two boys, and one captain are scheduled to participate.
The Junior Tennis Tour has been the platform for the best tennis players
A tournament that promotes tennis and multiculturalism. Created in 1990, the Tennis Europe Junior Tour has long been the platform for launching a successful tennis career, and in recent years the participation in this Circuit of players such as Justine Henin, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Murray, Dinara Safina, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Maria Sharapova should be highlighted.
Within each age group, the Circuit consists of three Grade 1 and 2 tournaments: Grade 1 and 2 tournaments attract the largest number of players, with draws of 64 tennis players in both the men's and women's categories, while Grade 3 tournaments offer the same appeal but are more accessible to lower-ranked players. In all tournaments, the aim is for children to participate in cultural and linguistic exchanges, forge new friendships, and so on, rather than focusing solely on tennis results. All events include singles and doubles draws.
The quality of play in the European Junior Tour tennis is such that it has sparked the interest of former world number 1s, including Graf, Seles, Sánchez-Vicario, Mauresmo, Becker, Lendl, Safin, Moya and Wilander, who actively participate and showcase their talent to the international audience through press articles and on TV, for the first time on the European circuit, demonstrating that the Tour is getting better every year.
