The Lope de Vega International School has celebrated another edition of its International Health and Environment Fair, an event that highlights the importance of caring for our surroundings and living in a healthy and respectful way, both towards others and the environment. The 14th edition of the fair is dedicated to... “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”, UNESCO theme for 2017.
For a week, the school has hosted talks, conferences, workshops, exhibitions and countless activities at all stages that have had their big day today with the celebration of the fair. The school pavilion has come to life with the installation of 18 workshops conducted by students and teachers From the science department, they have covered topics as diverse as the air we breathe, medicinal plants, animals, infectious diseases, sustainability, and adventure tourism. At the same time, students in the intermediate and advanced sports vocational training programs (TAFAD and TCAFMN) have been working on various sporting activities For the little ones, activities such as balloon twisting, juggling, spinning, Wii dance, climbing on a rock wall, zip line or rappelling.
One of the most visited stands has been that of the “LdV Positive Disrupters: For a Tourism of Adolescent Emotions”This movement, created by third-year secondary school students at the school, is fighting against the image of unrestrained leisure often associated with young people. Seven other schools in Benidorm and the province of Alicante have already joined the movement. The students presented the emotions map they are creating and explained their goals for the initiative, which aims to involve all young people of their generation.
The awards ceremony was attended by the pPresence of the Mayor of Benidorm and Councillor Delegate for Education, Antonio Pérez Pérez After visiting the fair and presenting the awards, she congratulated the Lope de Vega school community for their ongoing commitment to health, the environment, and the planet's sustainability. She added that similar efforts are underway in Benidorm, a city positioning itself as a sustainable tourist destination with a recycling rate per capita three times higher than the national average and the reuse of water for irrigation and street cleaning, resulting in significant savings of limited water resources.
The jury awarded prizes to the Birds workshop, conducted by 3rd-year ESO students, in the science category, and to the Spinning workshop, conducted by TAFAD students, in the sports category. Students Carlota Mataix and Shu Hang Pan won first prize in the mental math competition at their respective levels, and the 4th-grade A class received an award for being the most environmentally conscious.
The Fair also had significant external participation from associations and groups such as the Miguel Hernández and CEU-Cardenal Herrera Universities, the Red Cross, Serunión, the Serra Gelada Natural Park, the Department of Social Welfare of the Benidorm City Council, Imed Hospitals, the CDT of Benidorm, Serunión, the San Agustín School of Alicante and the Local Police of Benidorm
Healthy food played a key role in the day with the "Food Without Borders" stand where families of different nationalities from the school prepared typical dishes from their places of origin, also with the "My Grandfather is a Great Chef" competition held in the children's category, which awarded the best cooking recipes made by them.
- Celebration of the Literary Days “Lope de Vega: Theatre with a lot of story”
Alongside the activities of the Book Fair, the school has hosted "Literary Days" throughout this week, during which activities related to the world of literature have taken place. These have included: dramatizations of stories, readings from older students to younger ones, the creation of an infographic about Lope de Vega, poetry readings and competitions featuring poems written by the students themselves, and more. All activities have been conducted in Spanish, English, and Valencian.
