Construction of the school that the Rafiki Africa Association is building in Uganda, in collaboration with Lope de Vega School, is nearly complete. Therefore, a group of teachers from Lope de Vega School spent two weeks there with other volunteers to recruit teachers for the new school so that classes can begin in January.
Specifically, the Rafiki delegation included Deputy Director María Fuster, Head of Studies Carmen Luna, and teacher Pedro Galdón. In the Katwe area, they visited schools and interviewed teachers. They were accompanied by a civil engineer and an IT specialist, led by the Honorary President of the Rafiki Association, Juan Berchman.
The mission of the three educators has been to give the final push to the primary school whose construction is now complete in Kenziga and which has the capacity to accommodate 400 children. The school, which will bear the name of the founder of Lope de Vega School, “Carmen Pérez González,” is funded by the Lope de Vega International School, which, driven by solidarity and a commitment to sharing its values, will cover the teachers' salaries and training. In addition, classroom materials, furniture, and uniforms have been donated.
The work Rafiki Africa is doing in the area is very important, focusing on the education of its people and the construction of water infrastructure. Along with the teachers, an engineer has traveled to oversee the completion of the school's construction, as well as the installation of water pipes and wells in Katwe and Ikoba, and an IT specialist has also come to set up the new center's computer network and install the donated computers.
Collaboration agreement
Rafiki Africa is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 to help the most impoverished regions of Uganda, initially focusing on the Masaka area, home to thousands of refugees. Last year, the school signed a collaboration agreement for the construction of a new school in Kenziga. The school's expenses will be funded by member contributions and various fundraising campaigns throughout the year.
