A delegation of students from Lope de Vega High School, accompanied by two teachers, spent last week in Ostrava, Czech Republic. This is the first student exchange between countries, of which several are planned to take place over the next two years as part of the Erasmus+ project.
Under the title “A Bridging Calendar for the Future,” students and teachers from schools in four countries (Sweden, Czech Republic, Italy, and Spain) will learn about the past while simultaneously developing an awareness of the present, that is, ensuring the preservation of their cultural heritage for the future. The aim is to make young people aware of their responsibility for the legacy that humanity will leave to future generations; that decisions made in the world's most important forums can affect, and indeed do affect, our way of life, but so too can youth movements that unite citizens of different cultures and languages.
That's why it's so important to work together, and to do so in each of the countries participating in the project. This time, the students met in the Czech Republic, where they learned firsthand through a workshop. “Fight for Freedom” is part of Czech history, focusing on the self-immolation of young students like Jan Palach and its impact on Czechoslovakia's involvement in protesting the Soviet invasion at the end of the 60s. The concept of freedom has been discussed, and emblematic sites in Prague have been visited. related to the historical space and the events of the 60s in the Czech Republic, in order to get a better idea of the historical context.
Our students have begun working on the Erasmus+ project called "A Bridging Calendar." This project will allow students to learn about the past while also developing an awareness of the present, that is, ensuring the preservation of their cultural heritage for the future. The project offers a fresh perspective on the culture of their own country and those of the other partner countries. We aim to teach in a way that differs from regular classes, focusing on intensive learning.
This is the project schedule for next year:
Czech Republic – November 2018 – Fight for freedom
Italy – April 2019 – Art, brain and emotion
Spain – September 2019 – Communicating
Sweden – February 2020 – Sustainable Habits
Belgium, Brussels – May 2020 – Presentation at the European Parliament
